What do we mean by “counties”?
This edition shows ceremonial counties in England, preserved counties in Wales, council areas in Scotland and the six traditional counties of Northern Ireland. These are different geographic systems, explained in the map key.
England and Wales use OS October 2026 boundaries; Scotland uses ONS May 2026; Northern Ireland uses the OSNI release published December 2025. Other base-map editions vary. It is a reference map, rather than a navigation product.
